Dare County Arts Council

The Dare County Arts Council is getting settled into its new home inside the historic Dare County Courthouse in downtown Manteo. The arts council membership, along with workers from the Dare County public works departments have done a tremendous job of turning the building into a beautiful home and retail sales area for all the great local arts and crafts we find here on the Outer Banks. Do yourself a favor and pay them a visit real soon.

Tillett Votes "No"

Commissioner Virginia Tillett was the only commissioner voting against a small premium and deductible increase for county employees recently. Tillett gave no reason for her vote, but stated she understood why some county employees used the hospital emergency room instead of a primary care doctor, even if the circumstances didn't merit it. Tillett said some employees would rather have the hospital bill them for the $250 emergency room deductible, months later, than have to come up a $25/$50 doctor visit deductible on the spot for a doctor's office visit. "You get the hospital bill and just pay a little along", said Tillett. It was not apparent whether Tillett understood that emergency room visits, via higher hospital charges, was one of the chief culprits in rising county premium expenses.
