Power Washing Dare County Politics

Doesn't politics in Dare County need a good power washing?

One of the things EOD enjoys the most after each storm, and even a hurricane when there is no real damage, here on the Outer Banks is how clean and refreshed our beaches look. Even the grassy dunes, sidewalks and driveways along Virginia Dare Trail, Old Oregon Inlet Road and Hwy 12 look cleaner and brighter.

Hurricane Earl was a recent example of this. Sure, we had a few downed trees and limbs, but we also got a good  and much needed, end of the summer, power washing from that storm.

And, EOD think this is what Dare County politics needs...a good power washing. Currently, we have politicans serving on town boards that say outright, "I don't care what the voters think." Some have even encouraged out of state people to come here and register to vote and leave after the elections. Some have been voted out of office and wiggled themselves back in.

Other elected officials who, while living and serving in one town, have changed their residency status to an adjoining town in order to circumvent school attendance lines for their children.

We have a history of business owners in county and towns who will claim residence in the town where their business is located , instead of where they actually live, in order to get elected.  And, that's just for starters.

When politicans run for office using one platform, party affiliation or otherwise and, once elected, do the opposite, they are in need of a voter "power washing." Currently, our county government has Republican commissioners serving and voting like Democrats, Democrats who were formerly Republicans. Republicans who spend like liberal Democrats and some who don't even know where their party affiliation stands.

We have elected officials who are county employees and we have county employees who don't know which hat to wear when they are doing their public job and/or their elected job. We have husband and wife, brother and sister and cousins all working for the same public department(s).

We have officials who have been in elected positions too long, often because of apathetic voters who don't care enough to ride to the polls on election day. We have some towns who will consistently have the lowest voter turnout in every election and other towns who will organize and car pool voters to the polls and then tell them who to vote for.

Isn't it time the voters "power washed" politics here in Dare County?  It can't be done with talk, it can only be done with the power of your vote.  And, it can't be done with one election, the cards aren't stacked that way. Voters in Dare County need to wake up and stay woke up, unless, of course, they really believe the "same ole, same ole" is just a way of life here on the Outer Banks that can't be denied.

EOD thinks it can be denied. That's why he loves power washers.

Ray, How about a flowchart/family tree? Maybe a visual would make the problem obvious enough to inspire new names to run.

Off topic--- Wonder why Nags Head isn't trying to woo Lowe's away from KDH, invite them to Seamark? Lower capital investment for Lowe's and higher likelihood of success aiming at the underserved mainland Dare and Tyrell counties as well as Hatteras and Ocracoke islands.
Bet the small businesses already there would appreciate the increased traffic too.

Nags Head doesn't even want a quiet, low-key business such as a limo service in their Town...no WAY they'd want a big box!

Other than pushing for a convention center, NH has no "skin in that game..."

The taxes could be dedicated to help pay for a lot of that sand and the building/parking are already there. They would get to be heroes to KDH site opponents and to those previously mentioned communities who would enjoy greater convenience, spendmore money in NH and have access to some new jobs at this end.
Too sensible, you're probably right.

NH resident here, and I would love to see the Lowe's here in NH. The closer to home, the better. We already live under the Med-Evac helicopter flight path (noise, but not bad, bless them for their work) and night-time light from the hospital and Outer Banks Mall, La Fogata's, RBC and all that commercial stuff on the bypass. Why not encourage them to move it a bit south so the Hatteras and Roanoke Islanders can get to stuff they need faster?

(I know, they can already, or continue to, shop at Ace in Manteo or Nags Head...sorry Ace! Lowe's is likely coming by hook or by crook.)
