Does Commissioner Mike Johnson plan to keep a low profile regarding his return of over $500 back to the county tax coffers two weeks ago? Johnson had every chance to explain his actions during the January 18th board meeting, but he chose to remain quiet.
Is it possible he thought his actions, in getting unqualified reimbursements for travel expenses, were less (or more) egregious than those of Commissioner Richard Johnson or Commissioner Allen Burrus or Commissioner Warren Judge?
Perhaps, it was because Johnson didn't want to make an arrogant spectacle of himself on television as Commissioner Richard Johnson did on two occasions, or come off as a laughing, ranting buffoon like Burrus.
In either case, Commissioner Mike Johnson owes the people of Dare County an explanation. Did his mind go blank as he was signing those eight travel claims with the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC)? Did he forget about getting a refund of the monies from the ASMFC when he received that email from the county manager's office asking him for the receipts a few weeks after the event? Did he forget that he was claiming mileage from the ASMFC when he was standing at the gas pump, charging gasoline to Dare County taxpayers?
Or, perhaps, Johnson is just hoping the local press doesn't pick up on this story and no one reads EyeonDare, and the Dare County political grapevine isn't too long.
And, perhaps, we'll hear an apology from Mr. Johnson one day soon. But, don't hold your breath.

Why would anyone be surprised by this? I am presently in Afghanistan reading this and I can see that this man has not changed since I went to him with a complaint back in September. His response, "fix it yourself" and he went on a hunting trip. Should he have the nerve to run for office again, I will be waiting and ready to let the public know how he handles business that concerns the people of Dare County.
Please share more information on what you presented for a problem or concern. Doesnt seem right he would just blow you off when he is supposed to be representing the people. Oh wait, unless he is only serving for the free travel, expensive hotels and gourmet meals.
What gets me the most here is that the majority of our Commissioners and top County employees seem to think that everyone in the county lives like the "fat cats" up the beach. What about the folks in Mann's Harbor....East Lake......Stumpy Point......the soundside of Avon, etc. These are people that stay in Motel 6 and eat at Applebee's for an upscale dinner. Most don't have a house payment that is as much as the room charges......and some feed a family for a week on less than what these Commissioners spent on one meal. It is disgraceful and these people should feed ashamed. Again I ask where is the outrage? No one has disputed a single thing that Ray has published......in fact Mike paid back $500 already that would have stayed in his pocket otherwise. Is the State Auditor and AG in their political pocket too?
Ray - just wondering if you've heard that the town of NH is considering allowing "cluster" housing back in the Nature Preserve?
