| Allen Burrus |
Burrus, whose term on the Dare board expires in 2012, resides in Hatteras, NC where he operates a family owned grocery store. Prior to becoming a member of the board of commissioners, he also served on the Dare County Board of Education.
The commissioners voted during Monday's meeting to write a letter to Governor Beverly Perdue, endorsing Burrus for the position. In a similar action, the board of commissioners of Pasquotank County have also written Perdue, endorsing Matt Wood of Elizabeth City, NC. Wood, a businessman and former Pasquotank County commissioner, is the son of the late state senator George Wood of Camden County.
EyeonDare is not aware of a deadline for applications for the position.

Burrus one of our illiterate commissioners representing our area to the state? That's rich. Have they ever heard him speak? Makes you wonder who will be paying for his trips for that activity. Good news is he still has two credit cards to choose from.
I just wish the people of Dare County would wake up and vote the old guard, good ole boys out and get some folks in there who want better our county and not line their pockets.
We have departments in this county that make a difference such as the ambulance service that can't fill their vacant positions so instead of having eleven ambulance protecting my family I hear they have 9 for the whole county, yet the commissioners eat meals and travel and do just about whatever they want. I want my tax money to go for services that help and protect not so the board can keep abusing it.
Remember come election time. GET THE CROOKS OUT.
Hope he's not as skeerd to go to Raleigh as he is to go to DC!!!
Was not at the meeting; waiting for 'video' at 8; someone who said they were there, relayed that the motion for a letter from the county recommending/supporting for the him for the appointment was very sloooow in coming (an uncomfortably long silence); and when it finally did, Burrus had to second the motion after another uncomfortably long silence. We'll see.
Frankly, I can't imagine Burrus riding all over the other 13 counties looking for a $600 per night hotel room and a Ruth's Chris steakhouse, 'cause they ain't thar... And, I hope he realizes how far it is from Hatteras to Northhampton County.
Otherwise, I wish him well...
No one should doubt Mr. Burrus' ability to get things done - for himself! Maybe with this appointment he can get his parking lot paved without using his county credit card to pay for it - oops, that was nasty. I am embarassed to think of Mr. Burrus ranting and raving in Raleigh as a representative of Dare County. Perhaps he needs another "joint" to calm himself down and clear his vision. Maybe then he can engage his brain before his mouth.
I can say for one I am glad Allen has chosen to seek this position. Allen is very dedicated to helping Dare County folks with any issue they may have. He has always demonstrated a desire to help folks that really need it. I have no doubt that Allen will represent the people to his best and will do a great job! I support him fully!
Fact:Commissioner Burrus has admited that he 'should have smoked another joint.
Fact: He used a county credit card to pay his own taxes, and then back pedals saying it was a mistake.
Fact: He admits to spending $600 per night in hotels, and defies any of us to question the expense.
Fact: He dines on steaks and eats in the best local restaurants when working on county business.
I'm not an educated person, but is this really who we want representing us in Raleigh?
In the words of Commissioner Burrus, "Flusteratin', truly flusteratin."
I would truly be embarrassed if Burrus went to Raleigh and represented Dare County.
What in the world would those people think of us?
Nice guy but he has no business in local politics much less Raleigh.
Maybe it would be appropriate to have a DOT board member who has an interest in getting the Bonner Bridge replacement built, like Mr. Burrus. Mr. Wood's only interest is in getting himself on the DOT board or any state board for that matter.
