(1) As a citizen of the United States, living in North Carolina, do you think you should have the right to vote for or against a Congressional candidate who is a resident of Texas? (yes or no)

(2) As a citizen of North Carolina, living in Dare County, do you think you should have the right to vote for or against a candidate for the state legislature who will represent a district from the western part of the state? (yes or no)

(3) As a citizen of Manteo, NC, do you think you should have the right to vote for or against a candidate for the mayor of Duck, NC? (yes or no)

 (4) As a citizen of the Town of Kill Devil Hills, NC, do you think you should have the right to vote for or against a candidate from Hatteras Island for a seat on the county board of commissioners or school board? (yes or no)

(5) Do you believe that a U.S. citizen who is eligible to vote for a candidate for any given political office, national, state or local, should also have the same right to run for that office? (yes or no)

(6) If you are a Dare County citizen, do you think the current method of choosing your county commissioners and school board members are fair, regardless of where you may live in the county? (yes or no)

If you voted "No" for questions 1,2,3 and "Yes" for question 4, can you tell us why you voted "Yes" for #4?

If you voted "Yes" for question 5, are you aware this does not apply to the offices of county commissioner and school board member in Dare County?

If you voted "Yes" for question 6, do you also feel that voting districts in Dare County should be as equal in population sizes as possible? Why?

Now, please give EyeonDare your comments on this matter, and please take the "Poll" in the upper right hand corner of this blog.  Thanks.

This is a waste of time, energy, and thought processes. Most of your blog is worthy and shows your efforts. This does not IMO.

You are losing it. This rambles on like a Charlie Sheen interview.

Explain why #5 is not true for county commissioners and school board members.

Anon, #5 is not true because, in Dare County, you can only run for office as a candidate from the voting district wherein you reside.
You can vote for candidates from other districts, but you cannot run for that district seat. Also, with the current setup, it is possible for a candidate from a particular district to get elected and only get a minmal amount votes from the people/voters in his district. Just something to think about.

Anon #1 and Anon #2, this blogpost is laid out to encourage you to think about "redistricting". A lot of voters know very little about it, and it will be something we will be hearing a lot about in the weeks and months ahead. There will be a big push for our county commissioners to allow the people to speak on this matter. In the past, they have turned a deaf ear on us. Don't you think it's time they listened?

I think it's a good subject. I won't do the poll as an out of county person. Currituck does not have towns (yet), but we vote for commissioners representing specified geographic districts as well as a couple 'at-large' commissioners. The voting public gets to vote for all of the districts. Seems like it should be that you vote for your own district and also the at-large race. I am happy to cast my vote for the other district commissioners because I know better, but I am distressed when the know-nothings from other districts put that 'bum' in representing my district! :) :)

EOD - Becasue they may not agree with you does not mean they do not listen. There are many more people in Dare County than those who partake in this blog. Not trying to tear this blog down, but they do listen to people in
Dare County....they are like all of us in that they make horrible decisions and I hope they are learning from their mistakes and by the Grace of God will be forgiven for them and not make the same mistakes again. Let's give them a chance!

OK, last Anon...let's see if we can figure out where you were going with your comment...well.....I'm not sure...however, may I say that when I referred to "the commissioners", I wasn't referring to any particular commissioner or set of commissioners (at least not in this instance), because the board that last had the opportunity to study redistricting is long, long gone...

Thanks for the explanation; however, since your blog has "normally" been dealing with the current BOC, it seemed to lump all prior BOCs along with the current BOC - and that is definately comparing apples to green grapes. IMO it is great to remind the current BOC of their opportunities and give them the chance to do the right thing for all of Dare County.

Ideally, redistricting makes perfect sense. IN reallity it is probably a major pain. But it is the rule, so I say follw the rule, or change the rule. (good luck with change)

Comparing the population figures from 2000 to 2010 does not adequately demonstrate the need for redistricting since no redistricting was done in 2000. One must compare the numbers from 1990 to 2010 to get a real look at the population shift since any kind of redistricting was done.
