Oystercatcher's Lunch

This American Oystercatcher was foraging the beach on the north side
of  Oregon Inlet yesterday and came up with a nice mole crab
(sandflea) for lunch. Judging from the number of bands on the bird's legs,
one might think he broke away from some kind of chain-gang.
Although the populations are low, the bird is listed as a "specie of
concern, and is not currently listed under the federal
Endangered Species Act.
