More Transparency Needed in Outer Banks Government

Nags Head Commissioner - elect
Susie Walters
The televising of board meetings by all six municipalities in Dare County is long overdue. Currently, only the towns of Nags Head and Kitty Hawk broadcast their meetings on Government Channel 20, and if the recent elections proved anything, voters in all of the towns on the Outer Banks want more transparency from their local government.  Indeed, several candidates, such as the newly elected mayor of Kill Devil Hills,
Kill Devil Hills Mayor-elect
Sheila Foster Davies
Sheila Foster Davies and newly elected Nags Head commissioner Susie Walters made this issue an important part of their campaigns. Now, let's hope that all town boards take up the banner and televise their meetings.

Every town in the county has appointed members to the Dare County government television board.  Furthermore, the county public information office has advised EyeonDare that equipment for televising each meeting is available, for free, to each town.  All that would be required is for someone from each town to be trained to operate the equipment.  How hard can this be?

Come on, Southern Shores, Manteo, Duck and Kill Devil Hills.  What have you got to hide?  Don't be like one commissioner from Southern Shores who said, "if people want to know what is going on at our board meetings they should attend in person".  How preposterous!~

Kill Devil Hills has had someone trained to use the equipment for over a year. Makes you wonder why they haven't been televising their meetings.

Well, I would love to attend the S Shores board meetings in person but the schedule is not favorable to those of us who must work 2 jobs to pay for the tax increases of last year.

with some of the past SS leaders who got dumped for their unprofessional and sleazy behavior while allegedly "working" they should have a monitoring agency working close with a US Attorney to check out past and future!
