Summaries...what a giant step for KDH...just the last municipality on the planet NOT to air the actual meetings. got to keep some corners dark I suppose. More ways to hide thugs like Planning Director Loy...why didn't he get voted out with the rest of the Lowe's gang? Adminstration has its privileges...pray for early retirement.
Just curious, what makes one say that the town is falling apart. Just making a statement like that with no explanation sounds like just a hidden agenda.
I think this is an enormous step in leadership for KDH. Providing a venue for direct citizen input is paramount to our representative form of government. As many of you know I have made clear my intention to run for the 1st. District County Commissioner seat on the Dare County Board of Commissioners. If I am elected, I will dedicate at least one day per week to be personally available at the Dare County Commissioner 's Chambers. I believe that by being committed as elected representatives to give the public at large a greater say in setting local priorities we can restore transparency to local government. We were very successful in implementing these principles in Manteo through our Community Oriented Policing efforts. These fundamental principles of citizen oriented government are at the very core of our values in providing solid leadership on the important issues that we will face in the near future in Dare County. Working closely and directly with the citizens as well as developing a close dialogue with the municipal elected officials will help us to develop a sound fiscal plan to carry us into the future. Dare County truly is a very special place to live. If, as elected officials we ever take it upon ourselves to decide what is in the greater public interest without seeking constituent input than we have given up not only a fundamental liberty we enjoy under our constitutional form of government but also we have circumvented valuable information that can possibly improve the overall quality of life of every citizen. I personally believe that there is no opinion that is not at least worthy of consideration. Good servant oriented government practice would begin with the basic premise that we cannot fix it if we do not know what is broken. If I am so honored to serve as your County Commissioner, I will always uphold these basic principles that are uniquely American and a necessary part of problem solving as well as our success as a community of neighbors. Thank you KDH for taking steps that begin to make government on the local level transparent, accountable and responsible. Thank you also to Eye on Dare for keeping these issues in the forefront of our community.
Dear "Anon" You do have a point. It was certainly not my intent to hijack any post. I am sort of new to the blog world. I appreciate your input and will keep in mind your perspective. Please know that our campaign effort has been up and running now for some time. I still think that KDH's approach is a far more transparent and proactive step in communicating with the public. It represents the type of good government practice that I would hope to employ if I am elected. Thanks for your advice. Please feel free to contact means we can exchange more ideas that you may have to improve government service.
If you want some ideas to improve local govt', then do everything above board, obey the law, avoid the mere appearance of impropriety, and basically just be the example for which other elected officials should be judged.
In other words, do exactly opposite of what our current officials are doing.
Thanks, That is what both my faith and life lessons have taught me. I fully agree and will do my best. Please realize that though I have a lot of local government experience, I do not know everything. In fact far from it. I do know that our good men in the commercial fishing industry have been decimated by a real situation of unreasonable and frankly wrong regulation. Any education you may be able to offer to me in this area would certainly help me to better be able to represent these hard workers in our community. I welcome any information and help with this particular issue. These folks work too hard to be ignored and not have their elected local Officials stand up and champion for them in the political Arena.
Filing for elected office begins on February 13th, 2012, less than 60 days away. Meanwhile, please keep derogatory personal comments/questions towards anyone expressing interest in running for office to a minimum until such time they may become official candidates. EOD feels that would be the time for them to field any questions voters may wish to ask. Thanks for your understanding.

@ Anon 5:10 pm.
As long as Diaz the Town Manager is in there, Loy will be there.
They need to get rid of her, that town is falling apart.

Hey Francis,
IMO, I think it is kind of cheesy for you to hijack this thread as a kick off to your campaign.
45 words about KDH and est 300 words about you.
Seriously?
I believe that you should NOT be allowed to post a comment unless you identify yourself as is required by most editorial pages
