If the County Commissioners were elected to two-year terms instead of the current 4-year terms, and they had term limits of 2 or 3 terms, maybe they (and those like Strom Thurmond) wouldn't stay around so long that they began to smell like rotten fish.

Ever wondered why Dare County is such a great place to live? Because many people including the Commissioners care about our county! This group has basically Volunteered thousands of hours ! Look at all the good they have done and this takes time more than 1 term!! What a bunch of whining brats some on this forum are that really have nothing else to do but complain! Bears, a few spiff trips! Big Deal! Take your complaints and do one of two things! Get your NAME on the ballot or Keep your lame opinions to yourself! My guess is that very few if any have the guts or the fortitude to run for political office! But then again i'm sure someone will find something burried in your closet if you do! I'm a fan of the Progress Dare County has made over the past 16 years! Not perfect but pretty darn good! Thanks BOC Job ok done!

BOC Fan,
Apparently over 80% of the people who took the above poll don't agree with you about our county commissioners.
In fact, I believe the current board is the most unpopular group Dare County has had in office in a long time.
EOD knows their record. Do you?

Straight Talk said...

@EOD. Unpopular for 1 reason. Go to Pasquotank County or Camdem County or any other county for that matter and start the same things you are doing in Dare County (reporting on the politics, mostly the "bad things" and see if the results, people jumping on the bandwagon for change, are not identical to what is happening in Dare County. It happens everywhere. Its just not reported so not everyone sees it. You should know this being and auditor. You can't honestly say you never thought while auditing for the state, wow that was a waste of money by that group. If you would have brought those instances to public knowledge, they would have gotten same response as your blog is generating now. 80% of the people who voted your poll are people who read this blog for one reason only, they want to stir the pot. I agree with BOC fan, these 80 % bit@% and complain along with you but we never seem to see these 80%s on any ballot. Maybe its they have some skeletons in the closet they don't want anyone to uncover. If Sandy Sandy wins are you going to start digging into everything she does. I would hope so, being the fair and blanaced reporter (WINK WINK) that you are, but I hightly doubt it. We shall see.

I remain.

"BOC Fan" and "Straight Talk" cause me to think of the song "You're nobody til somebody loves you." I'm also reminded by his (their) comments that you can fool some of the people all of the time. Oh, well, I reckon my vote will be cancelled by him (them).

The polls on your blog are far from accurate as the website does not prevent one person voting every time he enters it. Eye on Dare voting mantra: one man = 200 votes.

EOD said...

The polls are as accurate as Blogger.com can make them. EOD has no control over the polls after they are put on line. The poll cannot be amended, only deleted.
Also, you should not be able to vote more than once, unless of course, like some other poll hackers you chose to make certain changes within your own computer, which, quite frankly, doesn't seem, to most honest folks, to be worth the time. Get my point?

BOC Fan,

Not sure where you are from, but in this country, you don't have to have your name on ANY ballot to comment on the performance of elected officials.

And so we are clear, it may be the thought of serving with corrupt politicians, not something buried in their closet, that keeps the "whining brats" from running for office.

Your post is little more than sanctimonious, self serving pablum.

Straight Talk said...

Another prime example of exactly what I mean. Someone says "something" EOD doesn't like or agree with and he moves it to the top to get all of the negative comments stirring again. God forbid anyone say anything that complements anyone here especially the commissioners. This blog is a one way street when it comes to political reporting. It makes me want to vomit that it seems your goal is to just rial things up. Prove me wrong.

I remain

I love it when people seem to think it's ok to behave immorally just because others are doing it. T

Two wrongs never make a right and just because they're doing it in Pasquotank or Camden County and getting away with it doesn't make it ok for Dare County too. I for one would like to see the good old boy system done away with.

BOC Fan - I think it's a bit much to state that this group has volunteered thousands of hours to Dare County. If I'm not mistaken, they are paid ($8,000 comes to mind for some reason) and get to travel and eat on the Dare County dime - and in some cases double dipping from other boards. That's not volunteering my any measure.

I make a pretty good living and I've never eaten at a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse like some of the current members have. And that's ok, well IMO they could go to an Outback if they had to eat steak, but to say they are "volunteering" is a stretch.

I don't know any of the commissioners personally, but I doubt even they look at it as a volunteer job. That's working at Hotline on a Saturday IMO.

I think some of you have either lost your minds or have some type of connection to the current BOC. I have witnessed the actions of all of the BOC at one time or another for the last few years and can hardly agree with you. We vote in people who we trust to do the job of representing us, when they conduct themselves the way I have seen this gang we vote them out. Nobody needs to rise to YOUR idiotic challenge of running, and they do indeed have the right to object to their behavior. That is called freedom of speech in this country. If they sit in that office, it took alot of time and money to get there, so what is the obvious motive? Think about that while even you try to make the rules here. I encourage all the readers to VOTE THEM ALL OUT.

Question: Do the County Commissioners get a small "stipend" (earmark?) each year to give to whatever interest that they have? I don't know and just wondering if this is another privilege provide to them by them.

I do not live in the Outer Banks area. In 2009 I was on vacation with my family, mainly women and children. There was a group of rowdy troublemakers renting a house near us. Their hostility toward us was evident from the first time we encountered them on the beach. We have no idea why they singled us out but it was quite obvious to us as well as total strangers who witnessed it. This is a very long story so I will make it as concise as possible. These large young men followed me to the beach one night, I was alone which is my normal routine. I love going to the beach at night and watch the families and children play and enjoy the sounds, smell, and tranquility. They showed up at the beach five minutes after me. But they did not go out onto the beach. They laid in wait at the steps to the dune crossing where they knew I had to exit. Three of them attacked me viciously as I tried to walk past them. They beat me and kicked me senseless for no reason. They then pushed me backwards down the Marten St beach access steps breaking ribs in my back among numerous other injuries. I thought I was paralyzed because I could not get up. They fled as I was laying there on the wooden steps. I did manage to get up and follow them the best I could in the condition I was in. I called 911 as I was following them. I met my family walking down the street from the direction these people ran. My 9 year old son ran to greet me. When he saw my beaten, swollen bloody face and body he turned and ran away from me screaming. Numerous witnesses approached the police inquiring as to what was going on because they had seen at least three people flee the scene before the police arrived. My injuries were so severe I had to be transported via ambulance to the trauma unit at Sentara Hospital. The police ignored witness statements, destroyed fingerprint evidence, didn't even take my statement at the time of the assault even though I was the victim. Now I know why. The perp/ringleader of these gangsta wannabees from Newport News is the brother of a police officer there. It has been three years. This case is not resolved and it looks like he is going to walk away with probation. My medical bills were close to 80,000 dollars. AND HE GETS PROBATION !!! I have done my research. This is the first time this has gone public but I can assure you it is not the last. My injuries were extensive. I also had a broken jaw which was wired shut for two months. We are still paying medical costs associated with this incident. The DA's office thinks probation is appropriate punishment for this type of extremely violent crime. Does his sister being a police officer in another town play a part? Is this the protection or lack thereof tourists can expect in the Outer Banks specifically Kill Devil Hills which seems to have its hands full of problems already. Oh, by the way, we have tried to contact Mr. Parrish on numerous occasions and have been delegated to his subordinates. I have never talked to the man personally. I believe the DA has a huge influence on sentencing recommendations. Probation for a crime of this nature sets a very bad precedent! There are many more details pertaining to this incident that lead me to believe that this was in some way an attempted cover up for whatever reason. We have a significant amount of documentation to make some people look very incompetent or willfully ignoring the facts in trying to cover up or down play this situation for some reason. If anyone that reads this would like to discuss this with me further, please post your interest.
