Giving us a headache

One reader over on the Outer Banks Voice just said the Kill Devil Hills police saga/fiasco/scandal/? was giving him/her a "headache".

Like the county bear hunting/youth team saga/fiasco/scandal/? that story has been bantered around in the local news media for months now. EyeonDare has, heretofore, tried to steer clear of the matter, which has become so convoluted and twisted that it is doubtful if anyone, including the participants, fully understands the full order of events that have transpired. Emotions are high, sides have been taken and its unlikely anyone will be satisfied when its all over.

So, for the time being, two online news sources, The Outer Banks Voice and the Outer Banks Sentinel have tried to keep readers up to date on all the going's on.  And, laughingly, readers have even taken sides on which of the two news sources are doing the best job of reporting, even to the point of accusing one or the other of slanting their news in favor of one side or the other.

From EyeonDare's perspective, it appears the Sentinel "may" (using that work carefully) be in the corner with the town and police chief, while the Voice "may" be in the corner with the police officers.  And, amusingly, the two judges, Fitch and Tillett, who should be the referees in this fight, may have given themselves a knockout punch with "calls" that even an armchair lawyer would Question.

Where does EOD stand on this issue?  OK, here's betting that when all is said and done, the chief will keep his job, the officers will lose their lawsuit, the DA will dust off criticism thrown at him, the two judges will have lost much favor in the eyes of the people, and the new town council will get on with running the Kill Devil Hills government.

Finally, the next big 'QUESTION' in Kill Devil Hills is apt to be...."Will the new mayor cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the new Lowes store this spring?

Ha ha! Love your last sentence, EOD!

Well EOD I am a bit disappointed in your last comment. As someone who has been to a lot of ribbon cuttings here on the beach. First I can count on one hand the number of times a town rep has been at this kind of event. Second the business owner is usally the one who cuts the ribbon. All that being said it seems like you have taken an unfair cheap shot. As someone who is a fan of EOD, this is not your finest moment.

That's OK, Anon. You call it a cheap shot, I call it a 'tongue-in-cheek' funny remark. Actually, in most of the ribbon cuttings I've seen there are usually zillions of people standing with sissors ready to cut and often the mayor is included in the group. Whatever..

Since "whatever" doesn't usually win the arguement and I have the pleasure of organizing more of these events then most. How about telling me one ribbon cutting you have been to in KDH where the Mayor has attended and been holding a pair of sissors.

Hmmmm...so we're limiting this debate to KDH?....well, let's ask former mayor Ray Sturza. I'm sure reads this blog. :)
Next, we'll ask Sherry Rollason

I'm sorry you said what you have seen. Now you are asking for help. Guess that was you just being witty again. Guess it's not so funny after all.

There are usually too many people to even be identified in the newspaper pictures of ribbon cuttings. Same with the ground breakings. Give EOD a break! He speaks truth. And it will be interesting, by golly, to see who's in the photo op for Lowes!!

I thought the ribbon cutting comment was funny as hell! Lighten up, Anon.

Even if the mayor fought Lowes coming to this community it would be wise for her to welcome them and show support. They are here, make nice or do not represent us.

I think the police chief will keep his job, the DA will keep his job and refuse to put that one cop on the stand, at least one of the complaining cops will be criminaly charged with perjury, the two current officers will be terminated, Judge Tillett will be reprimanded by the Judicial Review Committee, the former Town Attorney will be reprimanded by the NC State Bar Association, and counter suits will be launched by the police Chief upon the cops that started this. Just my opinion.

Based on what I know of the new KDH Mayor and how professional she is, I think it would be a safe bet to say she will be attending the Lowes Ribbon Cutting.

To anon on Feb 26, I don't think we can expect this mayor to do anything "wise". Its just not in her.

I was not in favor of Lowe's coming- not because it's "Lowe's" but because KDH rolled over and got pushed around. It's here. 'll shop there and wish them the best of luck. I can't imagine anyone wishing them failure- what would we do then?! WE want to be good neighbors, I hope they do, too.

To anon on Feb 28th. How about helping all of us with examples of why you made the comment about the Mayor of KDH. It's always interesting to get the prospective of others.

EOD right on one theory so far. Pilot reported Hinton will not hear the allegations on Parrish. Still waiting on the civil suit.
