Dare County Commissioner Mike Johnson has taken the first step in helping voters trim some of the "excess" away from our county board. According to the Outer Banks Voice, Johnson says he will not run for re-election this year. His term ends in December. And, EOD says "Kudos" to Johnson. He is one of four commissioners up for re-election this year. And, wouldn't it be nice if all of them followed in Johnson's footsteps? But, that's not going to happen, as Warren Judge and Allen Burrus have filed for re-election.

The taxpayers of Dare County deserve better accountability, more transparency and a willingness to listen from their elected officials and the current board just doesn't measure up. Let's hope more candidates, from any party, will come forward and offer their service on the board before the filing period ends on February 29th.

Well Thx Mike for the years of service.... One could only hope your replacement has 30+ hours a week to dedicate to Dare County! And is liked by this Editor! Good luck with that.... Oh snap, leaves your seat wide open for a left wing retiree....

@BOC Fan...can you get together with Johnson and give the taxpayers a good accounting of how he spent 30+ hours per week over the past seven years serving the county. And, please exclude his personal agenda items. We're waiting.

I'm wondering if his conscience has finally gotten to him and now maybe he'll blow cheese on what's really been going on behind closed doors in those BOC meetings??? I know, silly thought but, maybe he's "seen the light"??

Kudo's to Commissioner Johnson for doing the right thing. Now let’s hope we voters do the right thing and pick a replacement that has all citizens’ best interest at heart.

EOD, how would we go about putting some term limits in place? Can a referendum be make and voted on? There must be some way in the State of NC and the COUNTRY of Dare to put in place some term limits.

How about an ELECTED County manager?

He is done? AMEN!

County employees are not voted upon, Anon. They're appointed. That's why they're EMPLOYEES. Elected officals are just that...elected. Notice the distinguishing titles.

I have lost all confidence that any candidate will be ethical, honest or hold the best interest of the county over their own personal agendas. All politicians are liars and thieves, no matter if they call themselves democrats, republicans or independents. They all stink!

I dont know if I should give him kudos for walking away, or is he saving himself the blow to the ego if he suffers a landslide loss. I know of NOBODY who wants him back, except his pal up there who posted. AND, thanks to THIS blog, maybe he got the message. Hey,,,maybe we can scare the other incumbent's off! Stick to your guns Ray, we need you, and need good goverment!
