Richard Johnson Files for Re-election

Richard Johnson (R) of Manteo has filed for re-election to the seat he currently holds on the Dare County Board of Commissioners, representing District I (Manteo/mainland). Johnson has held the seat for the past four terms (16 years).

It had been widely rumored that Johnson might not file to run again, due to health problems.

As it currently stands, Johnson will be facing former Manteo police chief, Francis D'Ambra (R) in the May primary, at the same time John Lee Booth, Jr (D) and Alfred Lee Jackson (D) battle it out for the Democratic spot on the November ballot.  Meanwhile, Independent candidate Sandy Semans Ross of Stumpy Point has announced her intention of becoming a candidate in the November General Election. Currently, she is collecting signatures to have her name placed on the ballot.

Also filing for the NC House of Representatives (Dist. 6) yesterday, was Jeremy D. Adams of Nags Head, who will join Mattie Jane Lawson of Kill Devil Hills, and Arthur James Williams III of Washington NC on the Republican side of the ballot. Paul Tine of Kitty Hawk has filed as a Democrat.

I like it. I think it will negate Mr. D'Ambra's bid during the primary. Then, Johnson bows out, and let's the Democratic primary winner win the seat.

There is a reason that Mrs Cheryl Byrd recanted her resignation from the board after she learned Mr. D'Ambra was being appointed.

Speaks volumes about Mr. D'Ambra, I believe.

Given the choice between Johnson and D'Ambra, I'd choose Johnson.

Mrs. Byrd rescinded her resignation from what Board? Is Mr. D'Ambra appointed to a board? Only curious, not being critical, promise. Thanks.

Ditto. :-)

Man Johnson has to go, but D'Ambra? Anyone who thinks he left as Manteo PC on his own accord must believe is Santa. Nobody leaves these jobs on their own they usually walk before somebody makes them run. Any "insider" information out there? Getting a worse alternative will not help.

Islander,

Back several years ago, C. Byrd resigned, or planned to resign the Dare BOC. Francis D'Ambra was appointed to take her place.

Mrs. Byrd changed her mind. My opinion was the change of heart was to save Dare County from Mr. D'Ambra.

To Anonymous 6:37/11:59: Ah, gotcha. I had no idea that had happened. Very interesting, indeed!

To Anonymous 2:26: What I know about D'Ambra and his leaving the Town is second-hand knowledge, but from credible (Town employees) sources. Personally, I'm not thrilled by either Richard or Francis. Here's hoping Sandy Semans makes the cut!

Just because a person may be running unopposed don't mean that you have to vote for him. If you don't want him in office leave it blank. Johnson will have a number of people running against him but Chairman Judge will be running unopposed. If he is a person you don't want in office leave it blank.

Don't forget that Alfred Jackson is also running for the District 1 seat - an Outer Banks native - don't leave the space blank before you do a little research, talk to some people - he'd be a fresh face that I think would be a great choice
