| Dare County has launched a new and updated governmental website, replacing the old site which went online in 1999. EyeonDare encourages everyone to click here and explore all of the new features. Kudos to the county and its Public Information Department for all the work that went into this project. |

Looks good. There must be some skilled web programmers in the public info department.
I think the county contracted much of the work out, and I failed to give credit to the Information Technology Department. Sorry about that. At any rate, that site was long overdue for a re-working. The old one was state-of-the-art when it was unveiled 12 years ago, but had fallen behind most other governmental website, especially in the areas of glitz and glamor... :):)
Do you know how much was contracted and how much was in house? I heard there was a contractor in the initial stages of the project but that was just to get the ball rolling.
I really don't know, except that Dare County does nothing on the cheap; so, I hesitate to ask. :)
This is at least the 3rd "New Website" for the County in less than 10 years. Was it really necessary?
Not quite correct.
First website early 1998 - early 1999
Second website early 1999 - Dec 2004
Third website Jan 2005 - March 2012
Current website March 2012 -
Look it up http://www.archive.org

Was it necessary is the same thing I thought about when I saw it. I use the site almost daily, and yes, it's a more modern looking site, I can't see where much has changed on the real estate side where I spend my time.
With everything else being equal, I doubt it was a good use of our tax dollars. Dare county was already pretty far ahead of our surrounding counties when it came to the county site.
I commend the IT Department for a job well done. I am sure it was a huge undertaking - and not the top priority for those doing the programming. I believe they received and paid for a "boiler plate" for a minimal amount.
What YOU think may be right or wrong. You indicated that "I think the county contracted much of the work out" - please get the facts and let us know who gets the credit for this upgrade/design. I also think was overdue and certainly is well done.
