Nags Head Delinquent Taxpayers

Today's edition of the Outer Banks Sentinel lists Nags Head taxpayers who are delinquent in paying this year's tax assessments.  Eyeondare has to wonder how many of them can't pay because of the high sand tax assessment the town placed on them to nourish the beach last summer.

The list and amounts owed can be seen here. Simply click on "Classified" at the top of the page and scroll down to the botton of that page.

EOD- The $127,000 uncollected real estate taxes represents 3% of the $4.8 proposed in the budget. That means at this point Nags Head has collected 97% of all real estate taxes due. Where does Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills stand at this point. Maybe the sand project has made it easier for some homeowners in Nags Head to pay their taxes. Lets take a look at the numbers in the other towns or the previous years in nags head befor we insinuate anything.

Insinuate? Are you insinuating that the residents of Nags Head are better taxpayers than those living in KH and KDH? :):)

Frankly, if you ask me, I think those that got beach nouishment in Nags Head should have to pay increase county taxes too...after all, it was county money that paid for the majority of that sand.. right?..

EOD- I did not insinuate anything. All I asked was for you to look at the numbers in Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills (no nourishment project in those towns) before you "wonder" if the reason why Nags Head homeowners are delinquent was because of the increased tax expense caused by beach nourishment. I "wonder" if those towns have already collected 97% of their real estate taxes due? EOD, I also believe the county monies that were used for beach nourishment in Nags Head were specifically collected for that purpose. I "wonder" how big the beach nourishment fund has grown this year in Dare County? I know Nags Head contributed mightily to the occupancy tax fund. Rentals in Nags Head were great last year and will continue to be so because our beaches are nourished.

Did you know that your property values were to be reassessed in2010 to reflect the decrease in property values? But the BOC decided not to so you could pay taxes /appraisals from the boom level?Do you even care your paying twice your actual appraisal value?Think about that!
